Cops told to vacate rented accommodation | Aftermath of Bemina incident | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 25: The Jammu Kashmir Police have been at the receiving end during the on-going agitation. Not only have their police stations and posts been torched by angry protesters but around 600 of them have sustained injuries in stone pelting. And following the Bemina incident, where a constable pulled the head gear of a woman seeking release of his relative, the men in Khakhi have reasons to feel worried. The police were told to vacate from Batmaloo area following death of a 25-year-old girl, Fancy Jan who got killed when a `police man shot her' on July 9. The deceased lived in an area which falls in the close vicinity of Police Control Room, District Police Lines and the Armed Police Headquarters. A number of police men live in rented houses in the locality which was stormed by the police a few days ago. The police men were asked to vacate. Many of them did seek alternate accommodation in nearby areas. However, following intervention of senior citizens, the idea of "throwing" police men out of the area was abandoned. The Bemina incident has ignited the spark yet again. The trouble started when a Face book user identified the constable who was caught while pulling the head gar of a woman by Daily Aftaab lens man. According to the Face book user the constable lives in Batmaloo. The attitude of the people must have rung alarm bells in the police headquarters. The authorities have been desperately trying to improve the image of the police force. Police-public meetings have been held almost in every major town of the Valley. The DGP is taking keen interest in such meetings. For the first time in the past two decades, the people have come out openly against the police men. It did not happen at a time when the special operations group (SOG) wreaked havoc across Kashmir. The uniformed men living in the `sensitive' area, reports said are cursing the constable. They know a highly charged Kashmir cannot ignore the act committed by the erring constable. |
