SHO convicted for extorting money from temple Mahant | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 26: Special judge, anti-corruption court, Jammu, has convicted Muzaffar Ahmad Malik, who was SHO of Nagrota police station in 1992, for extorting money from Sheetla Mata temple Mahant Tulsi Giri. The judge sentenced him to one year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him. In case, he does not pay fine, he shall have to undergo an additional imprisonment of six months. A case under FIR No 101/1992 was registered against Malik in the state vigilance organization (SVO) on the complaint of Mahant Giri wherein he alleged that the former, who was SHO of Nagrota police station that time, had demanded and accepted Rs 2,500 as bribe from him to stop tresspassing into the temple land by Kishore Kumar and others. Instead of helping the mahant, Malik had kept the mahant and others under wrongful confinement. They were released only after the mahant had paid him Rs 2,500. During investigation by SVO, the allegations were substantiated and the challan was produced in the court on August 29, 1995, against the SHO for judicial determination. On completion of the trial, the accused was arrested and lodged in the Ambphalla district jail for undergoing the sentence
