Media sensitization workshop on COTPA begins

JAMMU, Aug 26: Jammu and Kashmir Voluntary Health and Development Association in collaboration with Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI) and Times of India organized Media Sensitization Workshop on Tobacco Control Act, 2003.
Minister for Health and Medical Education R.S. Chib, who was chief guest on the occasion inaugurated workshop here today at Zorawar Singh Auditorium, Conference Hall on Jammu University campus. Speaking on the occasion, Chib said that the people associated with Jammu and Kashmir Voluntary Health and Development Association are doing yeoman’s job by awaking people about the ill affects of use of tobacco through such workshops.
He stressed for organizing such programmes in educational institutions and also at block and tehsil levels so that the awareness against use of Tobacco use can be spread ate every level of social strata. He said that media has to play a pivotal role to strengthen the anti-tobacco movement by highlighting anti-tobacco measures, programmes/workshops to make aware the people of the state as well as country about its ill affects.
Minister apprised that over 27 organizations of Voluntary Health Association of India are working effectively all over the country for the benefit of the humanity. Chib said that such NGOs are creating awareness among the people to give up use of tobacco. He said that aims and objectives of these organizations are of vital importance as it is related with health and only a healthy society can make a healthy nation, the Minister added.
He said that Voluntary Health Association of India is one of the first few organizations working on tobacco control at the grass root levels. The Voluntary Health Association of India organizational structure is a federation of 27 State Level Voluntary Health Associations that are further linked to more than 4500 member institutions across the country and a network of more than 100,000 health promoters and workers.
Among others, Executive Director, JKVHADA, Principal Secretary Health and Medical Education, Director Health Services Jammu, Director Aastha Skin Clinic, Drug Controller and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
