Rain compounds woes of R.S.Pura residents | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 26: Recent incessant rains have exposed preparedness of tehsil administration in fighting with overflow of rain water in the R.S.Pura town. Rains are resulting in accumulation of water and silt besides endangering lives of the local residents because of the dreaded water borne diseases. For past more than one month, monsoon rains lashed entire R.S.Pura alongwith other parts of the state. From the past years few when the rains were in scanty, the problem was not so acute, but this year the intensity of the problem came to the fore. As R.S.Pura area, these days the farmers of the area are rearing rice crop which needs plenty of water. Locals alleged that administration did not plan proper exit of the rain water. And due to the negligence of the R.S.Pura Municipal Committee, water was also logged in the campus of Government Degree College R S Pura. Students of the college had also protested against the Municipal Committee. Besides, more than 100 meters of the stretch of the Nallah in front of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology (SKUAST) is creating nuisance for the locals. Veterinary Hospital and also JK Bank is situated adjacent to the Nallah that makes it impossible for people to reach the bank and the veterinary hospital. Because of improper drainage system; superfluous water from the fields gets accumulated in this Nallah and its adjacent areas, which in turn give rise to the many diseases. MLA R S Pura Gharu Ram Bhagat said that he had raised this issue in the meeting of District Development Board. He assured that the work on streamlining the sanitation and proper exit of the rain water would be done soon. He also said that he was equally concerned about the problems being faced by the locals.
