DHD is short of 20 doctors | Its time for infections, too, beware! | | Sharik Nabi Early Times Report Doda, Aug 27: Monsoon showers may be pleasant sight, but watch your health. The rain not only spells relief, but is also a invitation to a number of infections. Water and food contamination is common during the rain and causes infection, leading to an increase in the number of diarrhea and vomiting cases. The problem can take an ugly turn if the doctors and paramedical staff is short in hospitals. Here in District Hospital Doda (DHD) out of 45 doctors post only 25 were adjusted and rest are vacant not only this among Para-medical staff six Junior Staff Nurses, three Female Multipurpose Health Workers posts too are vacant , Among the doctors available here only three are assistant surgeons and rest are specialists including the lone Physician Dr . In this connection when Dr Fareed Ahmed, Superintendent of DHD was contacted he said even after paucity of medical staff they have a complete control over the sudden outbreak. Regarding the inflow of patients he said that since this outbreak they have examined 950 cases and on an average 120 patients were examined daily and at present 90 patients were admitted here. There are sufficient stock of medicines and other medical aids and none of the patient needs to buy the medicines from the market, added Dr Fareed. People allege that here doctors are not well equipped so they refer maximum cases to Jammu for advance treatment. It is worth mentioning that since the breakout of Gastroenteritis cases three persons has died so far and at present 90 patients were admitted in DHD. Knowing the inefficiency of DHD and non-availability of accommodation here 10 RR army has extended their help by erecting ten tents in hospital premises with a bedding capacity of 100. Not only has this army has given the service of their doctors and paramedical staff as well to cope this outbreak, said an army official. To know the actual cause of this sudden outbreak a team of three epidemiologist headed by Dr R S Charak has reached here and he has submitted his report and has suggested to use chlorine tablets in drinking water. Dr Charak denied to made public their report however from reliable sources it is said that the main cause of this outbreak is untreated water. Dr Charack said that the childrens are at risk because in schools chances of catching infection are very high as children stay in close proximity. One cannot keep a check on what kids eat outside and so gastro problems arise, added Dr. Charak.
