Paloura people alleges use of sub standard material | Leakage of water tank exposes poor construction | | Early Times Report Jammu, August 28: In a glaring example of the alleged official apathy and reminder of the crumbling of the water tank of the PHE in Paloura area of the winter capital almost two years ago, another water tank made on the same spot has also failed in its testing few days ago exposing the apathetic attitude of official. This time the water tank having the capacity of two lakh gallons was constructed by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA). This negligence of the construction has increased the problems of the locals who are already facing water shortage. Locals attributed the leakage to the use of sub standard material in construction and alleged lackadaisical attitude of the concerned authorities. They also maintained that corruption on gross scale in the construction also cannot be ruled out. The first attempt to construct the water tank in Paloura was made two years ago which was soon busted into debris. The tank was constructed near the school. Pertinently the tank is being constructed to lessen the water shortage of the area. Remarkably, the said tank is under repair by ERA after the leakage of water from the first tank. A prominent citizen of the area Mohan Singh Choudhary said that the project should be started before the proper checking so that risk to life and property is minimized. He further said that if same incident happens as we witnessed in the past, it will shake the faith of the people in the state government and the construction agency. When contacted, Director ERA Vinod said “projects can’t be just started without proper checking. The repairing work is going on and after proper checking by the concerned engineers to their satisfaction; the tank will be handed over to PHE for public use.
