People defy separatists bandh call in many parts of Valley | | | Ashwani Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 28: In another significant development, people in various parts of Kashmir Valley, especially in rural belt today defied the dictates of separatists and anti-national elements and refused to observe the bandh call today. This is for the first time in the ongoing agitation that people in any part of the Kashmir Valley have defied the bandh call, the sources said and termed it a significant development. According to reports, in Shangas Block of Anantnag district, the traffic plied from Chhatergul to Achabal while the majoirty of the shops in Chatergul, Shangus and Dethu in this constituency remained open. Besides, the Tata Sumos, the bus services also plied on Chatergul route today. In these areas, the traffic plied normally and many shops remained open though the separtist Hurriyat Conference spearheading the ongoing agitation in Kashmir has given a total bandh call upto September 4. As there was a normal day yesterday in Valley as per the separatists calander but the people were asked to observe complete strike upto September 4 barring September 3, however, the people in various parts of rural Kahsmir especially in district Anantnag and Kulgam of South Kashmir defied the bandh call and did their routine business . Likewise, the Sumo sevices from Acabal toVailoo in Kokernag in Brang Constituency of Anantnag district also plied while shops at various places in this constituency remained open. The uninterrupted transport also plied from Mattan to Kheerbal in the Anantnag district today while many business establishments in these localities also remained open. Likewise in Kulgam area, the passenger vehicles were plying from Kulgam to Chawalgam and other routes during the day while the rest of the Valley observed the bandh. As reported earlier there has been resentment brewing among the masses in Valley against the prolonged bandhs and strikes that has hit common man during the last over two months. The sources said that besides the student community the small traders, laborers and transporters are the main sufferers of the present turmoil in the Valley. Sources said though one section of the people especially the Government employees and hardliners in Hurriyat are in favour of total strike while the people dependent on their daily earnings are now totally fed up of it and want that the strike should be called off once for all and people allowed to resume their normal work. The student community is most hit and their parents are worried about the career of their wards as they have lost over two months of their studies, the sources added. Meanwhile, the student community is worried as the annual examiantions in Kashmir Valley are held in October and November and only two months of academic session are left now, and they are yet to cover the syllabus due to prolonged strike. Though Government can give some leniency in paper setting but how can they compete in comeptetive examinations like CET etc without proper coaching and guidance, rued many parents. This is the reason that the Jamaat chief had also made a public appeal of ending the strikes and bandhs saying the prolonged strikes was not any solution to the problem. It may be recalled that recently at two places Siligam in Pahalgam and Ganderbal in Kashmir Valle,y the two groups of the people clashed on observing the bandh. While one faction asked the people to down the shutters of their business estabishments and the other group opposed into resulting in a clashes.
