Separatist woman leader Andrabi arrested | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU,Aug 28: Alleged to be one of the masterminds of the ongoing unrest in the valley, the hardline woman separatist leader Asiya Andrabi was today arrested by police from a house in Zakura area of Srinagar. "We have arrested Asiya Andrabi from Zakura area of Srinagar today," Farooq Ahmad, inspector general of police, Kashmir zone, said. Andrabi, who had gone underground after the incidents of stone pelting spread across Kashmir, was on the wanted list of police for more than two months. Her group, the Dukhtaran-e-Millat, is a constituent of the hardline Hurriyat group headed by Syed Ali Geelani that has been issuing shutdown and protest schedules here to continue anti-security forces protests. Andrabi, together with Masrat Alam, general secretary of the Geelani-led Hurriyat group, were evading arrest. Police were looking for both these separatist leaders to scuttle the frequently called separatist shutdowns and protests in the Valley. Alam was, however, still on the run and hiding. |
