Vohra reviews sanitation drive at Amarnath cave shrine | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 29 Five days after the annual Amarnath pilgrimage ended, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today visited the cave shrine and various camps to review the ongoing special sanitation drive. Vohra, who is also the chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), visited the camps at Panjtarni, Sheshnag, Baltal and Domel and discussed with officials improvements to be made for the yatra in 2011. This year's annual pilgrimage to the 3,880 metres-high shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas concluded on August 24 and over 4.56 lakh devotees visited the cave shrine of Lord Shiva during the past two months. SASB Chief Executive Officer R K Goyal said the special sanitation drive was launched over two weeks ago at all the camps and along the yatra routes for effective disposal of garbage. The Governor has been emphasising on cleaning the area before the onset of winter and personally monitoring the work on regular basis, he said, adding Vohra had expressed satisfaction at the efforts made by the board. Operation and maintenance of sewerage treatment plants at Baltal and Nunwan camps, biological treatment of human wastes at all other camps, and scientific treatment of all solid and liquid wastes are some of the measures which have been undertaken. Vohra reached the cave shrine from Srinagar this morning and also took stock of the damage caused to the yatra-related facilities due to flash floods on August 22.
