| Ekta vihar residents hold demonstration against evocation notice | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 30: The resident of Gangyal today held demonstration against high handedness of the authorities in issuing eviction notices to some people, who have constructed their houses and shops at a place, a part of which is now turned into a nallah, due to the vagary of the nature.
Addressing the media S.Baldev Singh Wazir President of Joint Welfare Association Gangyal stated that eviction notices have been served on them from the office of the District Development Commissioner Jammu asking to vacate and demolish their constructions within 24 hours, failing which action will be taken against them. He added that there is no nallah as such at the place in the Revenue record and most of the peo;e who have constructed their houses and shops at the place have got mutation and registration of the land in their favous. Some of them have even mortgage their premises to the banks against loans taken by them. However in due doucrse of time rain water has started flowing form a portion of it which has taken the shape of a nallah. We have been for last 20 years making all efforts to check any encroachment on the area by any unscrupulous person, though some influential persons have managed to encroach some area.
Singh further said that instead of serving eviction notice the concerned authorities should have tried to approach us and asked for sorting out the problem of nallah, with our co-operation, we are always prepared o co-operation with the authorities and even surrender a portion of our registered land for the purpose of smooth flow of water in the formation of nallah. But the authorities seem to be adamant to act high handedly and harass us. He said the entire move by the authorities, which is on behest of some visted interest, is politically motivated. Some politically influential people have their personal interest in the matter and to benefit them. The innocent people without approach are being harassed.
