JMC carries out plantation drive | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 30: As a part of plantation drive started during the monsoon season with an endeavor to turn Jammu clean and green, Horticulture Wing of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) planted about 200 saplings of different varieties of plants in Bhagwati Nagar, Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Nawabad and adjoining areas. On this occasion, the principal, staff and students of the school were present. Assistant Commissioner (R) Jammu Municipal Corporation while speaking on the occasion said that God has gifted us with most valuable things in nature and we must perform our duty with utmost care to maintain the ecological balance in nature. He made students aware of the importance of forests and added that need of the hour is to plant more and more plants with missionary zeal which are essential for the survival of the humanity and also to save the earth planet. Municipal Veterinary Officer (MVO) continued the drive against the stray animals and lifted 23 stray animals from the areas of Janipur, Akhoor Road, Jewel Area, Bhagwati Nagar, Talab Tillo, Bahu Fort, Gandhi Nagar, Channi etc., and impounded the stray animals in Municipal Cattle Pound. Team also undertook a drive in the areas of Jewel, Bikram Chowk, Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar etc., and seized the polythene carry bags from the shopkeepers and other outlets in these areas. The team charged a total fine of Rs. 5200 from the defaulters on spot. Besides this, enforcement wing while continuing the anti-encroachment drive visited the areas of Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar to clear the footpaths, pavements and seized the goods, articles like tyers, umbrella, weighing scales, sign boards, Tarpals etc., which were found on footpaths / pavements in these areas.
