‘If Eid falls on Friday, ruler loses his throne’ | Will NC led Govt survive? | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 30: If Eid falls on Friday, the ruler loses his throne. This is what Kashmiri women firmly believe. All rulers in Kashmir, they say with authority, have lost their respective governments when Hilaal-e-Eid (crescent) was spotted on Thursday. September 10 is a Friday and 30th day of Ramadhan. Like other months of Islamic calendar, Ramadhan can have either 30 or 29 days depending upon the appearance of crescent. If crescent is spotted on September 9, Eid shall be celebrated on Friday. It will not be a good omen for National Conference led coalition rule, women believe. Omar Abdullah is in the eye of the storm. Since January 31, violent demonstrations across Kashmir have given him sleepless nights. The demonstrations have left more than 150 persons dead. Sixty-four of them got killed during the past three months. The spree of civilian killings gave separatists the opportunity to ignite the spark yet again. They launched `Quit Jammu Kashmir Movement'. The angry people supported it and Kashmir today completed 80th day of strike. Omar Abdullah led government has been accused of failure on all fronts. He has also candidly admitted his failure. He was heckled at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) when he went there to enquire about the health of the injured. Interestingly, Omar had been asked by New Delhi to try to reach the people. `Reach the people campaign' was abandoned the day it took off. The hatred expressed by the people to a member of the Sheikh family at SKIMS was unprecedented and painful as well. The peoples' anger increased when Omar sought additional companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to quell public protests in Kashmir. The people gave vent to their anger on August 15 when a police officer threw a shoe on Omar Abdullah while he was unfurling the Tricolor at Bakshi Stadium. The shoe missed him by a whisker. The incident made the show thrower a hero in Kashmir. A few days later, he arrived to a hero's welcome in Ajas Bandipora. Earlier a desperate Omar expressed his helplessness by seeking support from the separatists. "Please help me in restoring peace and order to Kashmir", he appealed to them. This was a candid admission of his failure, says a senior separatist. "He admitted that the writ of separatists runs in contemporary Kashmir", he said. So Omar's record is not very impressive. And to add to his woes, Eid may fall on Friday on (September 10). And if Kashmiri women are to be believed then Omar's government is in real danger. |
