Sadhotra reacts to Sharma's remark, says Omar to stay on post for full term | 'Rotational' Chief Ministership issue | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 30: The observations made by veteran Congressman Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma over what he said the need for 'rotational' chief ministership in J&K state , it appears has stirred some political reaction, albeit in subtle tone from the ruling ally National Conference. These observations have been made by a seasoned politician, also former Deputy Deputy Chief Minister of the state, and therefore cannot be taken as casual or remarks in lighter vein. These were indeed loaded with political message and connotations apparently reflecting a soft talk in some quarters of Congress about the possibility of change of guard in the coalition. However, Ajay Sadhotra, also a Jammu based politician from the ruling NC reacted in a subtle manner to what Sharma said during the Congress convention in Samba. The issue, it seems has sparked off war of words among the coalition partners. Reacting to the statement of senior Congress leader in which he had advocated the need for rotating the CM's chair National Conference MLC and former cabinet minister Ajay Sadhotra on Monday reminded the state Congress leaders including former Deputy Chief Minister about the agreement reached between the Congress party high command and the National conference leaders at the time of government formation in 2009. "The Congress leadership while handing over the baton of power to the Omar Abdullah had made it clear that he will remain chief minister of the state for a period of six years and there will be no change of guard",Sadhotra said while addressing a press conference here today. The urgency with which the NC leadership in the state reacted is a clear indication that the power struggle is going on between the coalition allies especially in the light of prevailing unrest in the Kashmir valley. During the press conference Sadhotra minced no words while praising the leadership of the 'youngest' Chief Minister of the state and added that he is fully in control of the situation and there is no pressure on him to vacate the post. He urged the Congress leaders not to rake up the issue of leadership change of the coalition government at this crucial juncture and appealed to them to strengthen the hands of the young chief minister and help him in his resolve to restore normalcy in the state. It may be mentioned that former Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma while underlining the need for rotational chief minister-ship in the state had expressed the view that it would be only desirable of a Congressman heads the coalition government after National Conference leader Omar Abdullah completes three years in office. He even contended that the matter would be taken up with the Congress high command so that decks are cleared for the transfer of state power from the National Conference to the Congress. |
