Prof Javeed delivers extension lecture on Urdu poetry | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 3: “Urdu Poetry is based on protest and many Urdu poets from the very beginning protested against social evils of the society particularly it protested against Atrocities and unequal ness through their verses.” These views were expressed by noted Urdu scholar Prof. Ali Javeed during an extension lecturer organized by Department of Urdu, Jammu University on Friday. The lecturer was the part of Bazyaft programme started by the Urdu Department. Prof Ali Javeed informed that Urdu is a language which had united India from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari. He informed that from 1757 to 1947 Urdu was a language which was spoken widely in all country. Urdu poets by writing protest poetry against Britishers played a vital role in the freedom struggle of India. He said that before the rule of Britishers on India Urdu poets too wrote Urdu poetry against atrocities and inequality. In this connection Ali Javeed presented some important verses which were appreciated by the audience who asked various questions to Ali Javeed who replied all quarries in a befitting manner. The function was presided over by Prof. Veena Gupta Dean Faculty of Arts while Zahida Khan, Director Education graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Dr Meenakshi Kilam was the Guest of Honour. Earlier, while introducing Ali Javeed, Dr Mohd Reyaz in detail discuss his contribution for the promotion of Urdu language. He informed that as a Director National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) Dr. Ali Javeed organized several seminars and workshops for the promotion of Urdu language. In his presidential address, Prof. Veena Gupta said that Ali Javeed had touched a very important theme of Urdu poetry which had a great relevance in the present circumstance. In his welcome address HOD Urdu Prof. Shohab lnayat Malik criticize the State Government for neglecting its official language. He demanded the establishment of Urdu academy in the state and also demanded that Urdu be taught as compulsory subject up to 10th level. Prof M.A. Wani conducted the proceeding of the programme. He also presented a vote of thanks.
