NSF demands fare concession to students | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 4: National Secular Forum (NSF) today criticized the Transport department for its failure to ensure fare concessions for student community. Talking to the media persons here today, president NSF, Vikas Sharma demanded that students be provided fare concession adding that transporters particularly mini bus operators are not extending the facility to pupils. “Traffic cops deployed on different routes always busy in entry culture, ignoring the duties assigned to them for manning traffic and implementing rules and regulations,” the NSF president said, adding “Traffic cops has developed a nexus with the mini-bus operators and they don’t take action against them (operators) for charging extra fare from students.” Vikas Sharma asserted that the transporters refuse to give concession to students on long as well as short routes primarily on the plea that they have to give entry to the cops at every crossing leading to the dispute between both the parties. He said that the hilly areas of the state like Doda and Poonch have exposed the functioning of Traffic Department where hundreds of people have lost their lives in road mishaps and that too, due to negligence of the traffic department. He urged the government to look into the functioning of traffic department to ensure that rules and regulations be implemented in true essence for the welfare of student community and general public at large. “The government should order a probe into large scale corruption and other malpractices being adopted by the traffic cops,” Sharma demanded. |
