Appoint Independent Commission headed by Supreme Court Judge: Chaman
9/4/2010 9:17:35 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sep 4: Observing as ill-conceived and lacking wisdom, the enquiry by a commission into just some death cases in course of violence in the Valley, especially at this juncture of turmoil, the leader of the BJP Legislators Party, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta demanded that an independent Commission headed by a Supreme Court Judge should be appointed to find out the causes that led to prevailing anarchy in the valley of Kashmir and pin point those high ups who failed to perform their legal and constitutional obligations.
He also assailed the coalition of the Congress-National Conference for their failure to act to the extent that anti-national elements are dictating terms including the challenge for very unity and integrity of the country as the ruling leadership of New-Delhi and that of this state are trying to unsettle the long settled issues by describing Kashmir as a political problem which could be negotiated.
In a statement here today, Prof. Gupta said that just 20 months back the people of this State including 16 lakh of Kashmiris had voted to power the coalition of the NC and that of the Congress. It must be probed by the independent Commission that what has gone wrong that the writ of the government is missing and not only the law of the land but also constitutional integrity has been made as a matter of dispute.
It also needed to be looked into that why the ministers and other leaders of these two ruling parties have holed up to their bunglows and certain particular places leaving the whole space open in the valley for the anti-national elements and the fundamentalists to have their way to an extent that the nationalists and vast majority of silent masses have been made hostages, he added and ridiculed those so-called intellectuals and protagonists of human rights that stone pelters should not be met with force as per them, they are protesters.
He said that such troubles and turmoil are not new especially after outbreak of cross border terror in this unfortunate state but the most disturbing feature at this juncture is that there appear little will and more so the capacity, both in the state coalition as also at New Delhi, to fulfill their legal and moral duties in accordance with the law of the land.
Prof. Gupta warned that any more wrong handling would lead to more complications and the nationalists would not tolerate this silently as after all this is the matter of sovereignty and unity of the country and this state symbolizes the very basics of the plural ethoas which has been endangered by communal and Talbani outlook. This needed to be fought firmly but it was highly deplorable part of the whole melodrama that the ruling leaders of the NC and that of the Congress are themselves blunting the weapons of security with which the terror and mob-violence could be tackled.
He appealed to the Governor also to see that whether his constitutional office too, has some obligations and whether these are being fulfilled. Above all the nationalists must arise to the occasion and force all concerned to act or quit.
