3-km road widening lying incomplete even after 2 years | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 4: In yet another story of official apathy, the work on road widening from Bantalab to Barnai measuring three kilometer in length has not been completed even after passage of almost two years. It is pertinent to mention here that keeping in view the heavy traffic load and constant demand from the local residents, the State Government had decided to widen this road at the cost of 3.94 crore in the outskirts of the winter capital. Thereafter, the construction work was started two years ago but was abandoned halfway for the reasons best known to the concerned authorities. The construction material laid there remained unattended amounting to the loss to tune of lakhs of the public money. Locals alleged that only half kilometer of the road was widened and that too in the market place. They also termed it as a symbol of negligence of the concerned government departments. The inhabitants of Barnai led by former Corporators Omi Khajuria and Manhor Lal urged the concerned departments for early completion of the road many times but no action has been taken so far. The local people have the apprehension that since the road is narrow and in dilapidated condition, serious mishap can happen anytime. However, the local MLA Bodh Raj contended that initially the funds were allotted for widening of the road in the market only. But after demand of the local residents to widen the entire three kilometer stretch, additional funds of 3.94 crore were allotted. “We are also concerned with the public sentiments and the hardships they are facing” added Bodh Raj.
