College student hold protest against land encroachment

Kishtwar, Sep 4:- Students of Degree College Kishtwar today held a protest demonstration outside D. C Office Kishtwar against the college land encroached by the public and blocked main road for nearly an hour disrupting the vehicular movement.
The students held protest after few local people residing in an around college complex tried to stop the fencing work of college premises, demanding approach road of 12 feet for their locality. The trouble started when the college principal along with the staff members reached the spot and tried to pacify the situation, but they were allegedly abused and manhandled by some local peoples, who were resisting the erecting of college fence.
As soon as the college students came to know about alleged misbehavior with college principal and staff members, both girls as well as boys staged protest demonstration against the people with college staff. The students squatted on road to registered their protest demanding restoration of college land which was encroached by the public.They alleged that the college land was shrinking day by day and the concerned authorities were watching as a spectators.
Meanwhile ACR Kishtwar R.K Shavan after coming to know about the protest being held by the college students against encroachment of college land, he approached the agitating students and assured them that he will look into the matter personally. He urged the students for lifting the Dharna outside D.C office and promised them that he will visit the spot and after getting the assurance from ACR Kishtwar, the students lifted the dharna and dispersed peacefully.
Later ACR Kishtwar went to the spot along with some college students and listened to the grievances of students, college staff and the local public. He issued necessary direction to Naib Tehsildar Kishtwar for demarcation of college land and assured the contractor that full security will be provided to him for restoration of fencing work. In the meantime college principal has filled a written complaint before SSP Kishtwar and demands for registration of case against some people who were creating trouble and was allegedly abused and humiliated college principal and his staff member.
It is worth while to mention that large area of college land, ITI land, DC office land, etc were encroached by the public with some political back and the government has so far failed on all fronts to recover the encroached land from these people and restore it to the concerned department.
