Power/ water disruption in Channi Himmat | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sep 4: There is a deep sense of anguish and grave resentment amongst the residents of Channi Himmat Housing Colony which has been facing acute power disruptions for the last many days. Residents feel that this lapse on the part of power development department to supply uninterrupted power to the colony goes against the spirit of promises made by the state government to provide uninterrupted and stable power to the areas which are declared as 100% electronically metered. It has further been observed that these frequent curtailments directly affect the water supply to the colony which has already been reeling under acute water shortage. The costly electric and electronic gadgets like TVs; refrigerators and computers of the residents are exposed to avoidable risks thereby causing huge financial loss. The aggrieved residents contend that frequent power cuts also encourage antisocial and criminal elements who by taking the benefit of darkness indulge in their activities ultimately leading to law and order problems. The colony has witnessed substantial rise in such problems in recent past. Above all this department has become insensitive even towards ensuring uninterrupted power supply during important festivals like the one recently witnessed during Shri Krishan Janamashtami when virtually there was no power for whole day. This Association appeals to the Chief Minister who holds the charge of this department not only to ensure non-occurrence of such situations in future but also to take appropriate action against the persons responsible for such lapses so that his commitments show result at the ground level.
