Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 4: Power hungry People Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and separatists have snatched books from kashmiri youth and handed over stones in their hands.
Expressing concern over the plight of the business community in Kashmir which has been hit by the frequent curfews and hartals, senior National Conference leader Parveen Anand today charged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of being responsible for the present situation in the Valley. He charged them of working behind the curtains for regaining their lost power by instigating youngsters to vent their ire on streets.
Anand said that need of the hour, is to humanize, not politicize Kashmir. He said both state leadership and security agencies should ensure that that not a single innocent life is lost on the streets of Kashmir. Reminding PDP of it's role as mainstream political party, Anand said that instead of indulging in petty politics, Mufti Sayeed, should have openly confronted the separatists, who in order to keep themselves relevant are indoctrinating young tender minds to keep the situation on the boil in Kashmir. `
He said that lifeline of the Valley - the tourism sector, has been one of the worst hit as close to 60,000 people have already lost their jobs due to the tension and unrest. He said that as per estimates, Valley is losing about Rs. 2,500 crores every week primarily in exports, imports and the services industry.
Education is another sector that is worst hit. For the last three months, educational institutions are closed, putting a big question mark on the future prospects of lakhs of Kashmiri students. About 1000 students have already left valley and taken admission in different educational institution in Jammu, Chandigarh, Delhi and Pune. ``But what about the rest?'' asked Anand.
He said that PDP leadership should instead take a cue from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who soon after taking over reins of state in his hands, kept aside differences and visited Mufti Sayeed residence, not only to seek his cooperation, but also to signal a new era of politics - A politics of bringing in positive change - by working in tandem with opposition.
Anand appealed to the youngsters of Kashmir and their parents to see through the ugly and nefarious designs of power hungry PDP leadership and separatists. He charged them of snatching books from common Kashmiri youth, and instead handing over stones in their hands. ``But when it comes to their children, the rules are different. All of them have sent their children outside state for better education. It is this double speak and sheer hypocrisy of separatists need to be exposed.'' said Anand.
