GDC Ramban organizes Teacher’s Day

Jammu, Sept 4: Government Degree College, Ramban, organized Teacher’s Day in the college premises under the leadership of Professor Kalpana Kesar, principal of the college. While inaugurating the programme Professor SA Ganie described doctor S Radhakrishnan a philosopher and statesman who began his carrier as a professor of philosophy.
Regarding celebrating his birthday Professor Ganie said that doctor Radhakrishnan opined that he wished to celebrate his birthday as a Teacher’s Day. Professor Kalpana Kesar in her speech expressed gratefulness to teachers who are instrumental not only in imparting academic knowledge but also shaping the personalities, inculcating the moral values, truthfulness and preparing students to face the challenge of the life which was also the message of doctor S Radhakrishnan.
Doctor GQ Sheikh while speaking on the occasion said that doctor Radhakrishnan was an educationist of exceptional stature. His interest in education began when he joined university of Calcutta at the behest of the Vice Chancellor Sir Ashutosh Mukharjee and was associated with the university till 1945.Doctor Sheikh said that those who saw doctor Radhakrishnan or met him were impressed by his personality, idealism and loftiness of character.
On the occasion a debate was also organized under the title ‘The role of teacher in nation building’ in which students of the college took part. Darshana Devi, Liaqat Ali and Karanjeet Singh was adjudged first, second and third respectively. Dr GQ Sheikh, Professor Barinder Chib and Professor Pinky were among the panel of judges.
