Goni invites only ‘favourites’ in official function | Fissures widen in JKCA | | KUNAL SHRIVATSA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 4: The differences between Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) and some of the Working Committee members again came to fore as the latter skipped an official function of the body organised here today. According to sources, majority of the working committee members of the Association stayed away from the foundation laying ceremony of a cricket Pavilion near GGM Science College. Sources attributed staying away of the working members to the ongoing tussle between chairman JKCA Mohammad Aslam Goni and a group of working committee members who accused the former of undemocratic and adopting a “dictatorial attitude.” If sources in JKCA are to be believed, the working committee members were not invited for the said function as Goni feared some trouble by the beleaguered members. “JKCA president Farooq Abdullah laid foundation stones in presence of chairman JKCA, Mohd Aslam Goni, Treasurer, Ehsan Mirza, vice chairman Jammu wing, Shambhu Nath and Member Finance Committee, Ranjeet Kalra while almost all working committee members of the Association did not turn up to the venue as they were not invited,” said sources. “The working committee members were deliberately ignored and not invited for the function as the chairman might have apprehended some trouble vis-à-vis ongoing tussle with working committee members. Interestingly, for the said occasion the Association adopted pick and choose policy by inviting a few blue-eyed members just to convey a message that all is well with the body….” alleged a working committee member, seeking anonymity. He questioned the legitimacy of the function, saying “The absence of majority of the members, out of total 64 from the function was a clear indication that they don’t recognize the leadership of the chairman.” Pertinently, a strong group of working committee had earlier also accused the chairman of dictating terms. “He has discredited himself not only as chairman but also an individual,” the members had alleged.
