| Land mafia enjoying immunity from law enforcing agencies | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 4: Enjoying the full backing of the officials , the land mafia in the J&K state has given its deep routes now. With also men and muscle power at their command the land mafia is on a sphere of not only encroaching the Nazool, Government and forest land but also the land belonging to the religious institutions like temples, ashrams, societies and that of common man in the state.
With the prices of land increasing over last one decade, the land mafia in the state have also spread its tentacles and started grabbing the land not only in cities and towns but also in rural belt. As per reports thousands kanals of such land in J&K is under the forcible occupation of land mafia while there are many litigations in courts also against the land grabbing by the mafia groups in the state.
According to reports there is a total nexus among the officials and the mafia groups and at various places even the land encroachers in league with revenue officials have managed to mutate the revenue records to silence the people who raise their voice against the grabbing of Nazool or other Government land.
This all is happening in the full view of the administration and the Government which despite making tall claims of removing the encroachments has failed to do so till date.
Recently in the outskirts of Jammu over 100 kanals of land which were purchased by a society for construction of the residential colony for the employees were grabbed by a mafia group on the ground that the land belonged to their forefathers. The hapless employees who had purchased the plots over a decade back are now running from pillar to post to seek justice but to no avail. The cost of this land has increased ten times since the hapless employees have purchased it and the land grabbers are likely going to set up an educational institution there.
This is not a single case of this nature but hundreds of such cases are pending disposal before the Government, the sources said.
Sources said with the increasing market value of the land day by day the land mafia is not only eyeing the Government land but also the land belonging to religious places in different parts of the state. While in Kashmir Valley hundreds of kanals of the Hindu shrines land has already been grabbed by the musclemen enjoying the immunity from law enforcing agencies.
In Jammu region also the land mafia has set its eyes on the land belonging to religious places. The people appointed as the custodian of this land are even facing the threat from the mafia group. Recently a Sadhu who has been appointed as the custodian of a temple and over 150 kanals of the land belonging to it in outskirts of the Jammu city alleged that land mafia is hell bent to grab the land of the temple by threatening him.
In another case a group of people from Doda and Kishtwar districts who had also purchased some plots in the outer Jammu over a decade back were shocked to see when a mafia group did not allow them to go ahead with the construction of the plinths on the said land. When the plot holders showed some resistance they were given threats by the mafia group enjoying the full patronage of the officials.
After approaching the authorities for justice the plot holders were taken aback after the land grabbers also produced the mutated revenue records showing them as the owners of the land. |
