9/4/2010 11:49:16 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 4: A day after hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani challenged Union Minister and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah daring him to walk freely in Lal Chowk area ,Dr Abdullah chose to hit back at the octogenarian leader by questioning his credentials.
"Who is Syed Ali Shah Geelani? What is his stature in front of Farooq Abdullah and why should I accept his challenge", Dr Abdullah said when asked whether he is going to accept his challenge.
Dr Abdullah was interacting with the press reporters in Science college cricket ground after laying foundation stone of changing room for sports persons in the cricket ground.
Lashing out at the separatist leader Dr Abdullah did not stop just here. He even went to comment that there is no need for him to accept the 'threat' of Geelani. I do not even want to accept or recognize his credentials, the National conference Chief said.
Responding to another question over the recent offer for initiating dialogue with India if five conditions laid out by him were met Dr Abdullah said 'if Geelani is willing to take Kashmir to Pakistan he should first go there.'
On plebiscite demand Dr Abdullah said if at all it is required it should first begin with POK and later in Kashmir. Dr Abdullah said several proposals were floated but none helped resolve issue of Kashmir. "Kashmir is not going anywhere……", he asserted, adding that it has already acceded with India and Geelani is not going to gain anything. Dr Abdullah also had a piece of advice for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on how to deal with the Maoists threat. "I would suggest to him not to surrender and fight them with firm hand", Dr Abdullah said, adding " we committed mistakes in the past and I do not want him to commit same mistakes. He said the first mistake was made by VP Singh government by releasing five terrorists and later the same was repeated at the time of Kandahar hijacking. "I hope Nitish will not repeat the mistake", DrAbdullah added.
