Four killed, 12 injured in road mishaps

JAMMU, Sept 11: In separate road mishaps on the 300 km Kathua-Ramban stretch of the national highway, four persons were killed and 12 others wounded, most of them critically, since late Friday evening.
In a head-on collision between two-wheelers at Chhappar Morh in Hiranagar, Kathua, at about 10.45 pm yesterday, a motorcyclist and a scooterist lost their lives while three pillion riders sustained serious injuries.
Police sources identified the dead as Sourab Singh (25), son of Naresh Singh of Khairi Mandi in Samba, and Gurdeep Kumar (35), son of Bhagat Ram of Chhan Morian, Hiranagar.
The injured -- Naresh Sharma, son of Bua Ditta of Ghagwal, Anil Kumar, son of Girdhari Lal of Samba and Keshav Sharma, son of Thoru Ram of Ghagwal -- were admitted to sub-district hospital, Hiranagar.
However, following deterioration in their condition, they were later referred to the GMC Hospital here.
While Sourab, who drove motorcycle (JK08A/0906), was killed on the spot, Gurdeep, who drove scooter (JK08A/5637), succumbed to his injuries in the GMC hospital.
In another incident, a speeding minibus overturned near Barwal Morh in Kathua, resulting in the instant death of its conductor Romesh Kumar and critical wounds to six commuters. The injured were hospitalised.
Another mishap occured at Kela Morh near Ramban at about 3.30 am today after a sumo (JK01M/2955) skidded off the highway and plunged into a deep gorge as a result of which one person was killed while three others sustained multiple injuries.
The ill-fated sumo was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar.
Sources identified the dead as Kulvinder Singh, son of Gurbachan Singh of Mukerian, Punjab, and the injured as driver Farooq Ahmad, son of Abdul Hamid Bhat, Shamim Ahmad, son of Ghulam Ahmad, both residents of Pattan, Baramullah, and Banti, son of Kishore Kumar of Mukerian.
The injured were undergoing treatment at the district hospital, Ramban.
Cases in this connection stand registered at the concerned police stations.
