| Jammu consumers council re-elected president, Gen Secretary | | | Early times Report Jammu, Sept 23: Ved Bhasin was re-elected as the president and Jatinder Bakshi as the secretary general of the Jammu Consumer Council for 2010-2012 at the twentieth meeting of the general body of the Council here today. Major Gen (retired) Jagdish Jamwal and Prof. Posh Charak was elected as Vice President while Kewal Mahajan was re-elected as treasurer. All the office-bearers were elected unanimously. J.S Chauhan acted as the Returning Officer. Bakshi presented the annual report which was adopted by the house. The statement of accounts for the year 2009-10 and auditors report, presented by Kewal Mahajan were also approved unanimously. Porf. Nirmal Kamal was nominated by the president as additional secretary general while Prof. Shoab Innayat Malik and Prof Hemla Aggarwal were nominated secretaries and K.I.H Kazmi, Meera Prabhu Singh and Harbahjan Kaur were nominated as joint secretaries. Speaking on the occasion, Bhasin said the consumers movement in the state needs to be expended to protect the rights of the consumers. He said while the JCC has struggled for the cause of the consumers managing to get several problems solved still "We have much to do to provide relief to the consumers." Bhasin also regretted that the state authorities have failed to bring any improvement in the services like water supply, electricity, roads, sanitation, pollution control and in checking the environmental degradation. He also criticized the central services like the telecommunication department DSNL, railways and civil aviation for their failure to improve and expand the services. |
