| MLA Rashid demand debate in state assembly on Guru issue | | | early Times REport Srinagar, Feb 21: Independent MLA from Langate Engineer sheikh Rashid said the importance of the issue requires the thorough attention by the state legislature. The state assembly is scheduled to commence from February 23, 2012.Interestingly, BJP MLAs have also submitted a resolution demanding implementation of Guru death sentence and the speaker of the assembly last week said that resolution which could not be taken up during last session can be taken up again for discussion. MLA Rashid during autumn session of the state assembly in August last year had submitted the resolution calling for debate on the Guru hanging issue. On BJP submitting resolution demanding the implementation of Guru death sentence, MLA Langate said, "let both resolutions be admitted by the Speaker and let the assembly have a debate . " Let's discuss the pros and cons of both the resolutions in the Assembly in line with the rules and values of a true democratic set-up. when a similar issue was debated in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, why not same can be done in J&K," MLA Rashid said. He said , his resolution was sabotaged in the previous session of the legislature against the democratic spirit. Engineer Rasheed said, "if the same anti-democracy behaviour is exhibited in the forthcoming session, then it will further create dent on the trust of the people in the democratic institutions." MLA Langate asked NC and PDP not let their narrow party interests come in way of larger interests of the people of the state. "I hope both the parties will not repeat the shoddy attitude this time vis-à-vis the Guru resolution," he said. |
