Cement plants openly flouting norms, PCB keeps mum | | | Neeraj Badyal. Early Times Report
Samba, Sept 19: Several cement industries in Sidco Phase one has been openly flouting pollution norms by spreading dust, pollution while the control department keep mum. The cement industries has been causing air pollution in the area and is damaging eco-sensitive zone around Basantar river and adjoining areas. There is also a thickly-populated of this area which is affected by dust pollution. Blaming government for not taking any action against the grave issue of pollution, they said neither the cement factories are following the norms set by Pollution Control Board for them nor have they installed the pollution control devices. When trucks carrying cement leave the plant, there is a large amount of dust in the air. Large trees in the area are dying because of the dust collected on the leaves. We are forced to cover our faces while passes through the area, said, Amit Kumar. The continuous pollution emanating from the cement factories is not only telling upon the health of human and cattle population of the area he added. It is grave issue concerning our life and livelihood. Because of the continuous pollution, our area are catching up infection of life-threatening diseases. We demanded Govt to immediately close the cement industries who openly flout the norms. Pollution control board officer support the cement industries so cement industries owners openly flout the norms said, Arun Khajuria, Block president JKNPP. |
