Invites sharp criticism for seeking Mehbooba's resignation | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 19: A day after Tariq Karra pitched for Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's resignation to pacify the current unrest, his remarks are being ridiculed by one and all in valley including the civil society groups and even by separatists. Tariq Karra in his recent interview had said that Mehbooba's resignation would douse the flames of the present unrest in Kashmir. "The anger may possibly be doused if the state government doesn't remain there. That is a popular view," Karra said. But he quickly added that the issue of Jammu and Kashmir needed a permanent solution to stop recurring bouts of violence in the state. "I have been vociferously speaking for a permanent settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir issue. Separatist leaders also advocate this. The goal is resolving the Kashmir issue." However, Karra's such remarks haven't augured well within various political woods here. The civil society, traders and even separatists have termed Karra's statement vindictive to score political points. "The present unrest is not due to Mehbooba Mufti as the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister infact is playing major role in bringing calm to restive Kashmir valley. Karra seems to have been making political points by speaking against the Chief Minister- otherwise his assertions aren't at all connected to the ground situation," says Rashid Hameed, a civil society member. Furthermore, even separatists are aghast over Karra's such remarks. Sources within the camp revealed that Karra's statement is viewed as a mere cry of a thief and that dragging in the name of chief minister Mehbooba Mufti is entirely an uncalled for action. "How could Mehbooba's stepping down help to resolve crisis on ground. It has never been a fight over whether CM should be there on a chair or not. Karra has been trying to give another vent to present unrest and to score the political point," sources within the separatist camp said. The notion on ground in Valley as well is that Mehbooba Mufti is in no way a reason for the current unrest and that it would be entirely immature to even talk of CM's stepping down from her post. "There is no denial of the fact that Mehbooba Mufti wants resumption of peace in Kashmir. She has been making repeated pleas to people to help her bring normalcy on ground. One wonders why Tariq Karra is this much desperate to grab the headlines and in lieu of all this- he is speaking in absolutely immature language," says a leading businessman here, Meanwhile, what is proving counterproductive for the PDP rebel is his repeated jibes at the government that too without substantiated with facts. On one hand he pitched for the amendment in the Indian constitution and on the other hands wants Mehbooba's government to fall. It remains to be seen what next is in store that is going to come out from Karra's cupboard. |
