Jammu, Oct 21: Pursuing the directions of the High Court, Jammu Friday, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Fridayconducted an anti-encroachment drive cum awareness campaign throughout the city to clear traffic congestion caused due to encroachments. According to press release, in compliance to instructions passed by the court, today the JMC also served notice to all the shopkeepers for removing their encroachment especially from the footpaths/ pavements and made aware the public by distributing leaflets among them. In this record, Dr. Manmohan Singh (KAS), Municipal Commissioner called a meeting with all the stakeholders regarding encroachment made by the shopkeepers on the footpaths/pavements. A brief discussion was also held with the members on the issue and they assured JMC that they would give their full cooperation while conducting anti encroachment drive against defaulters. They also stressed upon that such drives should be taken vigorously in future because some offenders in market are habitual to encroach the footpaths causing obstruction to vehicular traffic as well as pedestrians. The campaign was organized under the supervision of Joint Commissioner (Adm), R.S. Jamwal (KAS) with the assistance of SP, Traffic, Rohit, SDPO City, Vivek Shekhar, SHO city, Shakti Devi and police force in the areas of Veer Marg, Gurudwara Sunder Singh Road , JP Chowk, Vinayak Bazar, Dogra chowk etc. During the drive four truck loads of material has been seized from shopkeepers who has encroached footpaths/pavements by installing/displaying their articles outside the premises of shop causing hindrance to pedestrians and also causing heavy traffic vehicular traffic congestion. |
