Banihal drain stinks, authorities un-moved

Banihal, Oct 21 : The drainage system along Jammu Srinagar national highway in Banihal is in bad condition.
Municipal committee Banihal and the companies engaged with the construction of four lane highway, who are also responsible for the maintenance of highway and drainage system in the Banihal town seem in no mood to do the needful..
Locals and Shopkeepers of Banihal alleged that the drainage system in the market is in miserable conditions and no one is giving attention towards this ruined system . Shopkeepers said that this drainage is full of garbage and filth. They said that the rotten smell is coming from this drain and it becomes the difficult for the shopkeepers to sit on their shops and pedestrians to move freely in the market.
A shopkeeper Ashok Kumar said that despite of many requests no one is giving attention towards the miserable drainage system in the market, he said that it becomes difficult for him to sit on their shops as rotten smell comes from this drain .
Another Shopkeeper Rashid Jellani president druggist and chemist association Banihal said that the drain is full of dirt and garbage especially from Nagbal Bazar to Gundadalkoot. Even road leading to emergency hospital is also neglected.
Local Shopkeepers said that the sweepers of muncipilty are only cleaning the road and they also give no attention towards the drain.
He said that this is an open drain and no steps are going to cover and cleaning of this drain by either of any two agencies. Locals said that material of many shop keepers are lying on foot paths in the market and it becomes the difficultly for pedestrians to move in the ever busy highway market town freely. They said that maximum area of the footpaths are closed by the shopkeepers lying there material on there. Locals and shopkeepers demanded to Tehsil and district administration of Banihal and Ramban to give attention towards the Banihal market and give orders to the concerned agencies to construct a clean covered drain in the market.
