Tainted official posted as R&B Kashmir's CE | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Oct 22: The government has appointed an official, who was facing an inquiry by the Vigilance Organization for misappropriation of funds, as Chief Engineer Roads and Buildings Kashmir (R&B). Sources told Early Times that despite serious charges registered against him, Hamid Sheikh has managed 'No objection certificate' (NOC) from the Vigilance. When ET spoke to Sheikh for his comments, he insisted for not making a news item regarding this. "Yes, it is true that I have obtained NOC from the Vigilance and there was a case under investigation against me, but it has been concluded now," he said. If the sources are to be believed, a secret inquiry was also been initiated against Sheikh for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The appointment of the said official has raised eyebrows in the R&B department. "In 2015 the government after receiving number of complaints against Sheikh, transferred him from the post of Chief Engineer, R&B, Jammu, and asked him to report to the Administrative Department for further posting." Sources said the said official was subsequently sent to JKPCC. However after using his influence, he was again appointed as, Chief Engineer PMGSY Jammu. Sources said that the official with the blessing of power corridors has now managed plum posting as Chief engineer R&B Kashmir. The internal sources within the department are surprised that the official managed his choice posting in a short span of period. The government on October 6 issued orders of transfers and postings of five Chief Engineers in the R&B department. Accordingly Hamid Sheikh, Chief Engineer PMGSY was transferred and posted as Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir vice SK Razdan, who was placed Chief Engineer, ERA Kashmir. A source said that the said official is a favourite of some top officials in the R&B department and was transferred only after their insistence against consideration. "On the one hand, the government claim about cleaning the corruption in the administration and on the other hand they are resorting to such means by posting tainted officials," said sources. According to sources the said official was not considered for such plum posting following the Vigilance case, yet he was given the post. |
