The Union Territory recorded 8,355 lung cancer cases in 2024 alone, pushing the total over the past five years to a staggering 50,551, according to official figures. The surge in lung cancer has sparked growing concern among health experts, who have long pointed to air pollution, smoking, and environmental hazards as key drivers.
