Panchayat elections take priority as by-polls of Budgam, Nagrota face uncertainty
4/13/2025 9:55:10 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 13: With the summary revision process underway, the likelihood of early by-elections for the Budgam and Nagrota assembly constituencies has diminished. Instead, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will prioritize Panchayat elections, followed by polls for Block Development Councils (BDCs) and District Development Councils (DDCs). Previously, by-elections for these two constituencies were expected within six months of the Assembly members taking oath. These long-overdue elections aim to restore grassroots governance in the Union Territory. The last Panchayat term, elected in December 2018, ended on January 9, 2024, while municipal terms concluded in October 2023. Jammu and Kashmir has 4,291 panchayats, each with a sarpanch, and over 33,000 panch wards. The re...
