Rahul's "friendship" remarks agitates Congress | | | Bashir Assad srinagar, Oct 5: The State unit of Congress Friday registered their protest before AICC general secretary Rahul Ghandi for his friendship remarks with National Conference leadership and warned that such remarks would certainly be having dangerous consequences on the functioning of the congress in the state. Sources told Early Times that Congress leaders including PCC president professor Saifudin Soz, ministers, MLAs, MLCs, former ministers and legislators, office bearers including general secretaries and district presidents met Rahul Ghandi Friday afternoon and apprised him about the current political scenario. According to sources it was on this occasion that congress leaders expressed their anguish over the friendship remarks which Rahul made during a public meeting at Sonamerg the other day. Sources also said that state congress leaders made it abundantly clear that the alliance partner-the National Conference was ignoring Congress in decision making and was not consulting the congress on important policy decisions. "NC is strengthening its constituency at our cost-something having far reaching implications over the functioning of the congress in the state" sources quoted congress leaders as having told Rahul. Sources, however, said that Rahul assured the agitating congressmen that the interest of the party were supreme. "dosti paki, kharcha apna apna" sources quoted Rahul as having said. Sources also said that congress leaders from the state stressed that the portfolios lying with the National Conference from congress share shall be taken back without wasting time any more. Meanwhile, sources said some congress leaders complained that congress ministers in the coalition government too were not accommodating congress workers. "They don't listen to us; instead ignore us when we call on them". A senior congress leader Mir Mushtaq confirmed that issues pertaining to the functioning of the coalition, getting back the two portfolios from NC, and performance of sitting ministers figured in the discussion with Rahul Ghandi. Mir said that congress leaders stressed in one voice that party interests shall be taken care of and the non-performers in the coalition government should be shown exit. |
