NC sings in sync with Separatists in opposing Citizenship Rights to Pak Refugees | | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report srinagar, Jan 10: Daring to oppose recommendations of the Parliament to settle West Pakistan Refugees in Jammu province, National Conference (NC) while joining Separatists to oppose the move accused BJP of hijacking powers of Governor and violating the state Constitution for political gains. Terming the recommendations of the Joint Parliamentary Committee for settling the west Pakistan refugees permanently in the J&K as a deliberate anti-Jammu and Kashmir move by Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership, Additional general secretary of NC, Dr Mustafa Kamal said today said that according to pre-planned strategy BJP wants to change demography of the state. "It is a 60 year old matter, BJP only creates problems for people of Jammu and Kashmir, in past also Powers of Governor were misused when Jagmohan ruled the state and it would be repeated again this time we know it, NC will oppose the move tooth and Nail, we won't give them State subject status come what may," Said Mustafa Kamal. Talking to Early Times, Kamal said that BJP is cleverly uprooting the Constitution of the state to fulfil their nefarious designs meant to hurt Kashmiris and added that people who migrated from this side to Pakistan are living helplessly there. "BJP is silent on the issue because talking for them won't give them anything in return. They seek expansion of their vote share through west Pakistan refugees" he added. Pertinently, reaction of NC on the issue of settlement of west Pakistan refugees is similar to what hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani who accused parliamentary committee of 'attacking the special status of Jammu & Kashmir by conspiring to change the demography of the state and said that 'there are about 5 lakh West Pakistan refugees and issuing state subjects in their favour and giving voting rights to them will 'uproot' the constitution of the state. Independent law maker, Engineer Rashid while Demanding National Conference (NC) and People's Democratic Party (PDP) to unite Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Saturday led a protest demonstration from Municipal Park against the central government's proposed move to grant "Concessions" and citizenship rights to the refugees of West Pakistan settled in Jammu province. He alleged that 'Not only the Home Ministry under Rajnath Singh is aiming to provide jobs to these 11 lac refugees but it is also looking to bring them at par with the Kashmiri Pandits, and added that central government in a shameful manner and brazen violation of all norms has given ultimatum of one year to State Government to grant 8 seats, voting rights and permanent citizenship rights to these refuges as recommended by the Parliamentary Committee.' |
