The census was organised by the Wetlands Division, Kashmir in collaboration with various educational institutions,, non-governmental organisations and IBCN OF BHNS. The participants included scholars and students from the University of Kashmir, SKUAST-Kashmir and volunteers from NGOs namely the Kashmir Birdwatch and the Wildlife Conservation Fund. The Wildlife Warden Wetlands stated that the coordinated effort by the Department of Wildlife Protection to conduct AWC this year shall go a long way in establishing the numbers of various water birds particularly the migratory waterfowl that visit the wetlands of the valley during winter months. This procedure is going to be an annual event henceforth and shall help in creating a sound database of the winter waterfowl population in the area. |
