Transport commissioner seeks proposal from RTOs Passenger fare cut soon 1/19/2015 12:07:25 AM Mohit Puria Early Times Report Jammu, Jan. 18 : With several consumer forums and social organizations seeking immediate cut in existing passenger fares in view of the falling fuel prices, Transport Commissioner Dilshad Khan has sought proposals from different RTOs and ARTOs to reach a decision in this regard. Almost every month since August 2014, the prices of diesel have come down remarkably from Rs 60.17 to Rs 49.49 per liter whereas petrol prices have been slashed from Rs 76.66 to Rs 61.98 , affecting a cut of more than Rs 10 in diesel and almost Rs 15 in petrol prices for the last 5 months. International Prices of petroleum products have been declining due to which oil companies in India have also cut prices of diesel and petrol. People from different sections of society have since been demanding a reversal of passenger fares which were hiked following increase in fuel prices during the previous year. While talking to Early Times, Transport Commissioner Dilshad Khan said that the process of reducing passenger fares is on cards and soon a decision in this regard shall be taken. Khan said that the department has invited proposals from Regional Transporter Officers (RTOs) and Assistant Regional Transporter Officers (ARTOs) in this regard. Commissioner further said that due to Traffic Week, proposals got delayed but soon substantial reduction in passenger fare will be carried out to give relief to common people. To reduce passenger fare, scores of organization have come forward and protest demonstrations are being staged by people along with various NGOs, organizations against the administration. All J&K Passengers Welfare Association, ABVP, Jammu West Assembly Movement etc. are some organizations that are castigating administration and concerned authorities for offering a deaf ear to the genuine demand of people. "It is unjustified that when there was hike in fuel prices, transporters made hue and cry for increase passenger fare but now they have assumed criminal silence over the issue and minting money, caring a fig for the public", they alleged.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
