ATMA organizes training for promotion of fish culture | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 18 : A training camp for the promotion of fish culture was organized by Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Jammu at Aquarium Fish Farm, Doomi, near Akhnoor in collaboration with Department of Fisheries. According to press release, on the occasion fifty farmers were trained on various aspects of fish culture and the training was organised by Dr. V S Verma. Project Director, BB Sidha and Ravinder Kachroo Deputy Project Directors of ATMA under National Mission on Agricultural Extension and Technology for educating the farmers about the modern scientific methods of fish culture for supplementing their farm income. Gupta Fisheries Development Officer, Dr. Sanjesh Gupta apprised the farmers that fishery is a sunrise sector with ample of scope for growth and income generation in integration with other culture systems like dairy, poultry etc. He asserted that a fish pond in two kanals of land could yield 5-6 quintals of fish accruing 50-60 thousand rupees to the farmer. Kulbhushan Verma, Assistant Director elucidated about various departmental schemes and stressed that farmers should avail the benefit of these schemes for augmenting their farm income. He also informed that the registered homeless fish farmers are provided a financial assistance of seventy five thousand rupees for the construction of house under the centrally sponsored scheme 'welfare of fishermen' and exhorted the farmers for availing the benefit under this scheme. Problems of farmers were listened and solutions provided to their problems regarding fish culture. A progressive farmer, Santokh Singh of Gurha Manhasan in border area of Pargwal revealed to fellow fish farmers that he earned huge profits from fish culture in his pond and advised the farmers to take a cue from him and go for adoption of fish culture for supplementing their farm income. The fish farmers were taken around to the fish ponds of the departmental ponds on the training site to educate various aspects of fish culture The training of fish farmers was organized by ATMA under the supervision of OS Choudhary, Chief Agriculture Officer, Jammu and Vinod Ganjoo District Agriculture Officer (Extension), Jammu with the coordination of S. K Garyali (AEO) and Sanyog Kotru (Research Assistant). |
