Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 4: Former Minister Thakur Randhir Singh NCP President J&K state and a National Advisor Confederation Of Indian Farmer Association (CIFA) said that CIFA is committed to bring 600 million farmers under its umbrella to achieve common goals of economic equity and secured livelihood for farmers.
According to press release, he said that CIFA is actively working in majority states and regularly participates in Pre-Budget meeting with the Finance Minister, CACP and other governmental discussions. CIFA is working actively with input and processing industries on day to day basis. It is due to inadequacy of national industrial organization of CII, FAPCCI and ASSOCHAM inability to emphasis on farmer's issues.
"It is unfortunate that the successive state government including the Agriculture universities and finance department have never taken the members of CIFA into confidence and simply conducting wrong surveys to malign the farmers that they are losing interest in farming because of wrong reasons," he stated adding the successive state govts have never followed the programs of CIFA which other state govts are following seriously.
He said the main cause the farmers losing the interest is no proper irrigation facilities no new projects on irrigation in the state , not properly maintaining the famous Ranbir canal which has been totally ruined by the state irrigation department and spending rupees crores on it and the water doesn't reach to its tail end, no proper provision of seed, fertilizers and total failure of the agriculture department as well as agriculture University Jammu which has never have a Vice Chancellor which belongs to agriculture field most of the people appointed belongs to non-agriculture field.
"Delegation of farmers demanded sugar factory in R S Pura and enquiry into the damage caused to apple crop due to defected spray which has destroyed the apple crop in Kashmir valley and invited the National body of CIFA in Jammu and Kashmir to raise the issues of the farmers of the state at State and National level.
He condemned the callous attitude of successive state govts for not seriously taking up the issue of getting their share of water from Punjab govt which was to be used for lift irrigation for entire Kandi area of District Kathua.
