Farmers watch live telecast on 'Soil Health Card Scheme' | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 20: The farmers and farm-women of Jammu division joined other farmers of the country in watching the livetelecast today the launching of 'Soil Health Card Scheme' and presentation of Krishi Karman Awards by Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India at Suratgarh,Rajasthan. According to press release, the department of Agriculture, Jammu arranged facilities for viewing of the programme at the Conference Hall of Krishi Bhawan, Talab Tillo, Jammu and other district headquarters of Jammu division for more than 350 progressive farmers. The aim of the scheme is to provide Soil Health Cards to all the farmers free of cost within 3 years. Farmers will be provided with the actual nutrient status of their land covering major, secondary and micro-nutrients along with soil reaction (pH value), Electrical Conductivity and organic carbon status of the soil. As per norms the soil samples will be taken from a grid of 1.5 hectors in irrigated areas and 10 hectors in un-irrigated areas with GPS location. Each card will be depicted with a distinct colour code of green for sufficient, yellow for moderate, red for deficient and violet for problematic soils. Crop-wise fertilizer recommendations are scheduled to be made available to the farmers on actual soil test basis in future. Director S S Jamwal, besides other senior officers of the department were also present on the occasion. Addressing the farmers after the live telecast Director Agriculture said that the implementation of Soil Health Card Scheme will help in reducing the consumption of chemical fertilizers by 20% along with narrowing the wide NPK ratio to the normally recommended level of 4: 2: 1. The scheme will be a step towards the modernization of Indian Agriculture on scientific lines. |
