Case registered against Additional Resident Commissioner | Sexual harassment of KAS officer in New Delhi | | Early Times Report NEW DELHI, Feb 25: Delhi police has registered an FIR against Asif Hameed Khan, Additional Resident Commissioner in J&K House, New Delhi, for sexually harassing a junior KAS officer for over a year. Initially at the time when the victim filed the complaint, the police appeared reluctant to register an FIR, possibly succumbing to the political patronage enjoyed by the accused officer. It was only after the victim approached Suhail Malik, J&K's Deputy Advocate General in New Delhi, seeking justice for her, when heads began to roll. Malik filed a Writ Petition in the Delhi High Court against the officers of Delhi Police seeking contempt proceedings for violation of Supreme Court guidelines issued in the case of Lalita Kumari. He also sought criminal action against the officers of Delhi Police including the concerned Deputy Commissioner of Police (D.C.P) under Section 166 (a) (c) of the Indian Penal Code for having failed to register an F.I.R even after a lapse of 30 days. The Delhi High Court while issuing notices to the D.C.P and S.H.O concerned had expressed anguish and directed the police officers to file a status report within 4 weeks. Apprehending similar fate for his officers, the Commissioner of the Delhi Police directed his subordinates to forthwith register an F.I.R against the complaint filed the junior KAS officer. Despite the fact that the Delhi Police has registered an F.I.R against the accused officer under non-bailable sections 354, 345-A, 354-D, 506 and 509 of IPC, he continues to occupy his office due to his connections in the cauldrons of power. What is more surprising is that the State Government instead of appreciating its law officer for helping the KAS officer get justice, has asked Malik to resign immediately. The said directions were issued by the Law Department on the same date when the Writ Petition was filed in the Delhi High Court. Pertinently, the current Law Secretary is also one of the members of the Sexual Harassment Committee set up by the State Government for enquiring into the allegations of the lady officer. |
