Panic grips people of Kashmir as authorities sound flood alert following incessant rains | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Mar 29 : With no let up in rains across Kashmir authorities on Sunday night sounded flood alert with panic gripping the people more so those living in the Central and South Kashmir. Divisional administration declared flood threat as the water level crossed danger mark at two gauges in South and Central Kashmir. At Sangam in South Kashmir's Anantnag district was water level was recorded as more than 19 feet one feet above the danger level. As soon as the water crossed danger mark at Sangam authorities sounded red alert for the South Kashmir. Similarly at Ram Munshi Bagh in the summer capital the water level was recorded as 17 feet one feet above the danger mark. Following this flood alert has been sounded across the Central Kashmir's Srinagar district. People living near the Jhelum River have been asked to vacate their houses and shift to safer places. Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone has asked the officials associated with the flood duty to report to their duties at the earliest since the flood alert has been sounded. The district administration has also ordered for the opening of Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) at Pampore and Sanat Nagar marriage hall so that the people shifted from flood affected areas are accommodated there.
