Justice (R) Gandhi reverses his interim report; indicts Sajjad, Ors | Kishtwar ghost haunts Kichloo | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 29: In a development that may have serious political ramifications, former MoS Home, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo has been indicted in Kishtwar communal riots of August 2013. The former DIG, Ashkoor Wani and IGP Rajesh Kumar were also indicted. The Justice (Retd) Gandhi Commission of Inquiry submitted its final report to the GAD and indicted Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, the former DIG and an Inspector General of Police, Rajesh Kumar for the violence in Kishtwar in August 9, 2013. Pertinent to mention that Kichloo was given a clean chit by the Commission of Inquiry in its interim report submitted in December 2013. The commission said that none of the persons who had solicited affidavits deposed before the commission. Justice Gandhi has also in his report stated to treat Kichloo as a victim and not an accused. He also advocated for formation of Muslim VDCs so as to make a balancing act or otherwise according to it there will be a feel of insecurity among the Muslim community that can prove fatal for the law and order in future as well. In simple words he has recommended either disbanding of VDCs or formation of Muslim VDCs. Three persons were killed and property worth lakhs looted on August 9, 2013 in Kishtwar following a clash between two communities. Sajjad Kichloo, the MoS Home was in the town on the day and was accused of failure to handle the situation. Some quarters also accused him of giving sufficient time to the rioters to go for the loot and killing. The Bar Association in Jammu (BAJ) also sought an investigation alleging Kichloo runs a gun shop in Kishtwar and alleged that his shop was either allowed to be looted or was thrown open for rioters before the situation took an ugly turn after Eid prayers. Kichloo resigned following severe pressure from various quarters including BJP, PDP and the Congress. Fifteen months after filing the interim report, Justice (Retd) Gandhi has submitted his final report to the GAD. It is believed that the report has indicted Kichloo along with Ashkoor Wani and IGP Rajesh Kumar. The report, however, is yet to be examined by the government. |
