Technical Edu dept. fails to acquire allocated land for Polytechnic College, Samba | | | G S Asgotra
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 27 : The callous and lackadaisical approach of Technical Education Department (TED) could be gauged from the fact as the state government had sanctioned 75 kanals of land to Polytechnic College Samba but after lapse of more than five years, it has failed to acquire nearly 32 Kanals of land. Moreover, after repeated intimations by college authority to the District administration Samba as well as to the higher officials of Technical Education department, it could not get possession of a huge chink of allotted land, which is presently under possession of illegal encroachers. Source wishing anonymity informed Early Times that nearly five years back, state government had sanctioned 75 Kanals of land for construction of Polytechnic College Samba and its campus but after lapse of five years, the state government could hand over barely 43 kanals land which was insufficient according to norms, laid down by government for establishment of any polytechnic college. "As per the norms of the government, the minimum land required for a polytechnic college is 60 kanals but the technical education department is not abiding by the laid requirement of land as the college is actually in possession of 43 kanals only", he said. He further said that the engineers of Jammu Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) during construction of college building had informed the department that a major portion of land was under the illegal possession of economically and socially backward communities but so far neither state government nor the Department had rehabilitated these children of lesser god. An official of department alleged that the actual residents of the encroached land had been residing there for the last many decades. "These communities were not the voters of former MLA Yashpal Kundal and Minister S S Salathia, so they suggested their land for establishment of college to secure votes of other communities as the alleged encroachers were the supporters of BSP, so till date no rehabilitation measure has been taken. Principal of Polytechnic College Samba, Suket Gupta when contacted said that few days back, during a meeting with Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Sonu Pargal, he had apprised him regarding the encroachment of the college land, adding, "He (ACR) had assured me that he will soon visit the site and get demarcation of land done", he informed. Tehsildar and ACR, Samba however denied the claims and said, "The matter of illegal encroachment of college land is not in our knowledge". |
