POONCH, Apr 19: Expressing grief and anguish over the death of two teenage boys and injuries to 12 others in a road accident in village Arai of Block Mandi in Poonch district, former MLA and senior National Conference leader Ajaz Ahmed Jan on Sunday castigated administration for total inertia, saying what could be the level of apathy that a Tata Sumo was carrying 21 passengers without anybody taking cognizance. "This is a sheer criminal act, not only on the part of passenger vehicle pliers but the road managers, who were showing least care for public safety and security", Mr Jan said in a statement and sought a probe as to how such a small vehicle carried 21 passengers. He said the connivance of the concerned cannot be ruled out in road rage, which is taking alarming proposition with each passing day. Mr Jan also questioned the sagacity of administration for cancelling a bus service to the village sanctioned when he was representing the area as MLA. "This is needed to be enquired and responsibility fixed to find out the culprits who are responsible for total chaos", he maintained. The road accident led to impromptu bandh in the area, with people grieving over the death of eight year old Rafiq Ahmed and 13 year old Mohammed Shafiq. Mr Jan expressed sympathy with those who lost their dear ones in the accident and wished early recovery of those injured. He also visited the bereaved families and participated in Namaz Janaza. He was accompanied by the party district functionaries and several Panchs and Sarpanchs. The former MLA sought immediate ex-gratia for the next of the kin who lost their lives and free specialized treatment to those injured in the accident. He also sought establishment of Police Nakas and deployment of traffic police to ensure that such mishaps do not reoccur again due to greed of the transport pliers. |
