Mehtabgarh among 450 villages awaiting electrification | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, Apr19: The Mehtabgarh village situated just 4 Km away from Gateway to J&K , Lakhanpur loses its sheen at dusk when the electricity fails the people. According to a survey, more than 450 villages of J&K still await electrification. 50 to 60 families today staged a protest demonstration against Power Development Department and Power Minister J&K where their expressed concern over negligence of the department and JK government and said that issue was raised time and again with the concerned authorities without results. Moulvi Mohammad Yusaf, a senior citizen, said no electric poles, transformer or electric wires have been set up till date. He said nothing has been done since Independence. Yunis said more than 50-60 families belong to ST section that might be reason of negligence in the part of the government. He said students can't revise their study at home that affects their study. Shakib, a Youth, said coming summer season would add to their woes as many scorpions and snakes will be on prowl. He said scores lost their lives to snake bites last year. Shokat Ali another villager warned the Power Development Department of agitation if their demand was not fulfilled. |
