IB issues fresh alert of terror attacks in J&K | | | Agencies
New Delhi, Apr19: Following the fresh controversy and tensed situation in the valley, terrorist may plan an attack on security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, an Intelligence Bureau alert said on Sunday. The IB statement said that the Pakistani spy agency ISI may use the present situation to target Jammu national highway in the valley. Around 24 trained militants are trying to enter the valley, the alert said. Intercept reports revealed that few locals from Kupwara joined Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group which emerged as a major concern for the security agencies. A civilian was allegedly killed in a firing by security forces in the valley on Saturday which led to a tensed situation in the valley. Protesting against the death, the separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani called a complete bandh in Budgam district on Sunday. The issue began from a rally where Masarat Alam, a separatist leader shouted pro-Pakistani slogans and waved Pakistani flags. Following the rally, the police arrested Alam on Friday on charges of sedition and anti-national activities. A massive protest broke-out on Friday in Jamia Masjid area of Srinagar's old city where many protesters pelted stones on the security forces. The situation continued to remain tense on Saturday and after a violent clash, a protester was killed allegedly in the firing of security forces. According to the IB, the militants can use this situation to recruit locals in the terror groups. |
