CF demands tourism promotion plan for Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 19: Citizen's Forum has demanded a comprehensive tourist infrastructure plan for Jammu tourism with equitable tourism funds for the three regions as presently the share of tourism fund for Jammu is 10.6 percent only. Addressing a meeting of the members, forum president R K Chadha said, "We demand separate tourism development boards for both, regions with defined percentage of share of funds from state and central government. The Tata Strategic Management Group to which the job of tourism master plan of the state is entrusted by the tourism department has conveniently forgotten to prepare a comprehensive tourism plan for Jammu region." "Keeping in view the 1.25 crore visitors to Vaishno Devi shrine even if 30 per cent of the tourist are made to visit the developed sites around Jammu it can change the economy of this region. Previously it was decided during Governor Saxena's rule that Jammu city will be developed as a transit city for the tourist to stay here and then proceed further for the different destinations 1ile, Katra, Patni Top, and other sites which were to be developed around Jammu. Also tourist to Kashmir was to be attracted to stay in Jammu and then proceed for Kashmir, he added. |
