4 killed in Ramban mishap, two passengers still missing, injured rushed to hospital | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 25: At least four passengers were killed and two others went missing after a private taxi on its way to Srinagar from Jammu bearing No JK03D-8876 at 06:30 am rolled down in river Chenab at Mehar, 2 km away from Ramban town. According to official sources 12 persons were travelling in Tavera in which 6 persons were injured, 4 persons died and 2 persons were reported missing till last reports came in. The jawans of the Indian army and local police and civil authorities swung in to action soon after learning about the accident and rushed rescue teams to help them. District Development Commissioner, Ramban Farooq Shah Bukhari intervened in time and directed authorities of Baglihar Hydro Electric Power Project for decreasing the flow of water. It was only after the flow of water decreased that four dead bodies were fished out from the river Chenab by the local voluntaries of Red Cross. DDC also visited D.H Ramban and enquired about the condition of five injured persons which were hospitalized at D.H Ramban. He directed the Medical Officers to provide immediate and adequate treatment to injured persons.Meanwhile, the traffic police authorities have advised passengers to avoid traveling on the highway in over crowded transport vehicles to prevent accidents. |
